An unnamed American man records two performances by an unnamed Buna-speaking tribe in New Guinea (1941).
Collection Technical Notes: 
This is a set of three aluminum discs, recorded in Papua New Guinea in 1941 and consisting of two types of recording: 1) two discs [Nos. 1 & 3] of native performers and 2) an experimental disc [No. 2] made by the (unnamed) researcher describing in detail the equipment and recording standards he is using. The WAVE files are converted to MP3s.

The announcer heard on all the U.S.A.F.I. language records does the English here, and an unnamed Englishman pronounces each Pidgin token. The accompanying text states, "The speaker of the records seems to have learned Pidgin in the Sapik river county [sic]."
Collection Technical Notes: 
Phonograph records are two 12-inch vinylite discs “[p]repared by Special Service Division, S.O.S., War Dept. for the War and Navy Departments”--from the record labels. WAVE file is now converted to an MP3.

A man identified only as "A. Hannemann" pronounces a series of sample sentences in Pidgin with pauses for the student to repeat. Only the notes of N.A. McQuown establish: 1) that the University of Chicago is the place of production, 2) that 31 August 1943 is the date of production and 3) that A. Hannemann is the speaker. (Note that McQuown was not at the University of Chicago until 1946.)
Collection Technical Notes: 
Phonograph records are the two original, needle-cut discs in their original paper sleeves. (The blanks were manufactured by the Universal Microphone Company, Ltd., Inglewood, CA). (Note: The date of 31 August 1943 for the recording is suspect in that it seems to be a late date for the use of aluminum discs, which were used in the 1930s.) Text is scanned, and WAVE file is converted to an MP3.

An Australian man, speaking English, both introduces the parts of the lessons and voices the exercises himself. [Is he the author?] Meanwhile, native speakers (male and female) recreate the dialogues and recite narrative passages.

Tape are the copies sent from Australia in 1977. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Collection Descriptive Notes: 
Using New Guinea Pidgin (Tok Pisin) as the lingua franca, Dobrin interviews numerous native speakers (male and female). She works in collaboration with a male partner ("IRB"), an American, who sometimes operated their tape recorder.
The series ends with a farewell ceremony for Dobrin.
Collection Technical Notes: 
Cassettes are the original field recordings made in 1998-99. JJT has numbered the tapes in the order he found them. Note: The notations on the cassettes like "p:167-173" appear to be page references to Dobrin's transcription of the tapes.
