Collection Descriptive Notes: 
Fernandez de Miranda gives an exposition (in Spanish) of the phonetics of the Ixcatec language of Oaxaca State in Mexico with the assistance of a 54-year-old native speaker (male) of Santa Maria Ixcatlán.
Collection Technical Notes: 
The original recording was done (or begun) on February 13, 1950, at the “Laboratorio de Sonido” of the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (in Mexico City). The set consists of three wire recordings from Mexico which may, or may not, be the originals. In any case, they were copied onto audio tapes at the Old Lab c. 1954-62. Note: The DMA has a copy of the transcription F. de M. made of the recordings. Also note: Spool No. 2 of the wire recordings is missing. The WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Collection Descriptive Notes: 
in 1933 Andrade recorded native speakers (male) from the states of San Luis Potosí and Veracruz, who related their life stories, recited folktales and other stories, and read word-lists. The locales represented are: Chinampa, San Antonio, Tamaletóm, Tampemoch, Tancanhuitz, Tancoco, Tantocoy and Zacamixtle. Note: In McQuown's usage "text" or "texto" refers to a discrete passage of spoken language.
Collection Technical Notes: 
Phonograph records are the 31 field-recorded aluminum discs, all belonging to the "Fairchild Professional Record" brand ("Licensed by Kemsen Corp."). All but Disc No. 32 (which is eight inches in diameter) are ten inches in diameter. (It is not known why there is no Disc No. 31, but at the same time a Disc No. 32.) Note: Sides "A" and "B" are determined by the embossed label in the middle of each disc, Side A being the one with the raised embossing. Also note: The first 40 texts were transcribed and translated. (In the 1950s a complete set of tape dubs was made from the discs (see ID #4608)). WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Andrade, speaking Spanish: 1) evokes vocabulary items from the native speaker (male) and 2) records fluent texts spoken by the consultant. The locale is Cobán, "municipio y cabecera departamental de Alta Verapaz" in Guatemala. According to Ethnologue, the preferred spelling of the language is now "Q’eqchi’ ".
Collection Technical Notes: 
Discs are the original field recordings cut in Guatemala c. 1935. In 1979 Donald H. Ledin dubbed the discs onto tape. (Note: It was determined that Ledin's dubs--done on a professional deck--were to be preferred for digitizing that playing on the DMA's turntable.) WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Poqomchi’ (Pocomchi) vocabulary and life histories (Mayers, c. 1960)

Mayers reads from either a shorter or a longer version of the Spanish-language Swadesh list, and numerous consultants (male and female) from Alta Verapaz Department of Guatemala supply the Poqomchi' equivalents. Reels 29 through 30 contain life histories.
Collection Technical Notes: 
Tapes are dubs made in the Old Lab c. 1961 from a collection of 32 field recordings done on small reels and lent to the Language Lab. The lab technician is heard after each "cut" noting the end of one tape and the beginning of the next. The notations in red ink were made by N.A. McQuown. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Morató and two female collaborators, using both English and Spanish, voice (a few of) the lessons from Morató's text. The recordings were produced under Morató's direction at the Instituto de Idiomas "Tawantinsuyu" in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
