Collection Descriptive Notes:
Using a Swadesh list translated into Italian, Hamp interviews speakers of a Greek dialect spoken in the town of Bova in Calabria, Italy (June 18 and 19, 1956).
Collection Technical Notes:
These are the original field recordings, which were donated to the Language Laboratory by E.P. Hamp. Mrs. Margot Hamp operated the tape recorder (most probably a Magnemite). All the field recordings were transferred to DAT back-ups by JJT in 2002. The shelf code assigned to the tapes by N.A. McQuown is erroneous: these are not in Albanian. Hamp misspells Swadesh as “Swadish”. Note: The WAVE files were done in the one-track mono format and are now converted to MP3s.
