Collection Descriptive Notes:
Recordings consist of a variety of subject matter: elicitations of Didey vocabulary, readings of word lists, narratives and scripted conversations. The languages used by the researchers are English and Oriya. The designation "GataɁ" for Didey derives from the Ethnologue database; it is the natives who call their language Didey. The main consultant on these recordings is named Dobek, who comes from Oringi, Koraput District, Odisha State in India, and his dialect is “Plains Didey” of the South Munda group.) Note: This Chakravarti is probably NOT the same as the professor who taught at the University of Chicago.
Collection Technical Notes:
Tapes are the copies donated to the LLA by Norman H. Zide in 1999. One tape (No. 7) is apparently the original field recording; the rest are dubs made from No. 7 and other (unnamed) originals. The present numbering is purely arbitrary, reflecting the order in which JJT found them. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
