Collection Descriptive Notes:
On 13 December 1958 native speaker Alonso Hernandez Chen narrated 16 stories, first in Tzeltal, then in a Spanish summary. (Chen is described as being 17 years of age and a native of the paraje [locale] of Xolej (La Cañada), Tenejapa, Chiapas State, Mexico. John Vincent Baroco (who probably ran the tape recorder) subsequently transcribed the Spanish summaries (q.v.).
Collection Technical Notes:
Tapes are an eight-item subset of the original field-recorded Tenejapa tapes, numbered VI-XIII by Norman McQuown. Note: The pitch of the consultant's voice varies considerably from tape to tape. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
