Collection Descriptive Notes
Sata Süleyman and Norman McQuown take turns reading a variety of short texts in Turkish.
Collection Technical Notes
Tape is a subset of what is apparently the original tape recorded in the Old Lab. The texts (Nos. 59-79) begin on Track 1 about half-way into the track--after the "Intonation" portion--and they conclude on Track 2. Note that the numbering of the texts picks up where the Intonation samples (1-58) leave off. Also note: It is not clear why the native speaker is first identified as "Bayan Süleyman" (on the back of the box) and then as "Sata Süleyman", though the person is the same. Since the latter name appears on McQuown's index sheet, it must be correct. The WAVE file is now converted to an MP3.
