| Collection Descriptive Notes | In the 1970s McQuown reanalyzed and retranslated into Spanish 25 Classical Nahuatl poems from Léon-Portilla's text. He then made recordings of his revisions in 1979. Using Spanish as the instructional medium, he first reads one line at a time in the Nahuatl, then provides the Spanish gloss. (The text was published in 1967 by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México / Instituto de Investigaciones Históricas (Mexico City)). |
| Collection Technical Notes | Tapes are the archival copies dubbed in May 1995 from the edited studio recordings, which had to be backed up on account of the fact that they had developed stick-shed. According to notes on each box, the tapes were "baked" by Ampex (i.e., to render them temporarily playable). Since sticky-shed is a recurring problem, there seemed to be no reason to retain the studio recordings. In addition, DAT back-ups were also made from the studio recordings, and the archival copies were placed into the boxes originally used for the studio recordings. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s. |
