Phonograph records consists of eight discs of the Presto Recording Corp. brand (New York), which were apparently made on some proprietary cutting machine. The recording surface appears to be a thin plastic film bonded to a brittle base. How they came to be made is unknown. The digitization is incomplete because of two reasons: the turntable at the DMA automatically cuts off before the beginning of these discs (that play from the inside to the outside), and many of them are too damaged to play. (Unreviewed) WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.

Both a male and a female interviewer elicit examples of speech from six (?) consultants from Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. (These are not the complete interviews but excerpts made by Pederson (?) probably at the behest of Raven McDavid.)
Collection Technical Notes: 
Tape is a compilation of excerpts from the complete interviews. JJT recalls that a colleague sent McDavid this tape, which he donated it to the LLA c. 1977. (The handwriting on the back of the box is that of Raven McDavid.) Note: This compilation overlaps--but does not duplicate--the tape titled "Excerpt from five Gulf States interviews" (q.v.). The WAVE file is now converted to an MP3.
