Collection Descriptive Notes:
Norman McQuown prompts a native speaker (female) to produce variants in short utterances in order to demonstrate varieties of intonation.
Collection Technical Notes:
Tape is the first part of what is apparently the original tape recorded in the Old Lab. The "Intonation" portion begins the tape and continues for about half the track, when the "texts" begin. Note: It is not clear why the native speaker is first identified as "Bayan Süleyman" (on the back of the box) and then as "Sata Süleyman", though the person is the same. Since the latter name appears on McQuown's index sheet, it must be correct. The WAVE file is now converted to an MP3.
