Chewa texts [transcriptions]

Content description “Tone Study” is a list of groups of Chewa words, each group followed
–apparently–by an illustrative sentence). The small slips contain transcriptions (in English and Chewa) evidently made by Andrade from the discs themselves.

Contributor Andrade, Manuel J. (transcriber)
Notes Texts are: 1) a 7.25" x 10.5" sheet of grey paper typewritten on one side and titled "Tone Study"; and 2) three pages of scribbled notes (partly in Chewa, mostly in English). (The latter sheets were placed in a 7" x 10" manila clasp envelope by N.A. McQuown, who added the notation on the front.) Inasmuch as Andrade died in 1941, the date of the transcriptions must predate 1941 but probably not by much. The documents are to be found in the folder marked "Chewa Texts" in the vertical file VF03.
