Yucatán Maya; Yucatec Maya recordings on aluminum discs dubbed to tapes (Andrade, c. 1933; J.E. Wahl, 1958): Cuentos ("Texts")

Phonograph records (Nos. 1 through 102, plus an interpolated No. XV) are a subset of the 123 needle-cut aluminum discs made by (or under the supervision of) Andrade c. 1933 in the Yucatán. John Wahl dubbed these discs onto tape in 1958 at the Old Lab, starting with Andrade's No. 1 and ending with Andrade's No. 102. (Since Disc No. 97 had "no sound" and there is that extra disc (XV), Wahl--in effect--dubbed 102 discs.) Simultaneously with the dubbing, someone (McQuown?) listed all the discs (1A-102B, adding the interpolated No. XV), grouping them according to which stories are heard on them. Later, McQuown decided that Disc No. 1 and Disc No. 102 were not part of the "Cuentos" series, so he catalogued them separately as "YCT 88.CHZ.AND.1.1 (OD)" and "YCT 87.CHZ.AND.1.1 (OD)" (q.v.). The consequences of this renumbering are these: In the boxes catalogued as "YCT 41" McQuown's number for each disc is always one digit lower than Andrade's (with the exception of the interpolated Disc XV).
