Hidatsa field recordings (J. Boyle, 2000-2004)

Collection Descriptive Notes
Boyle elicits words and sentences from native speakers, four male and one female. This collection also includes two DATs of chants excerpted from analog souces and a DAT of commentary on recordings of traditional drumming.
Collection Technical Notes
This collection originally consisted of 36 DATs: 1) Two of them are recordings of Mandan, which are now placed in their own collection (q.v.); 2) Three of them proved to be completely blank; and 3) Thirty-one of them are the original field recordings done in stereo and at the 16-bit depth. They were entrusted to the LLA by John Boyle c. 2005. (The numbers on the DATs--inside brackets-- were arbitrarily assigned to them by JJT. The field recordings are numbered 1-19; 22-24; 26 and 29-36. The blank tapes are numbered 20, 21 and 25 and the Mandan tapes were skipped over between Nos. 26 and 29. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
