Collection Descriptive Notes | An unnamed man speaking American English reads the English portions of (some of the lessons of) the Spoken Bengali course, and a native speaker (male) supplies the Bengali of the Rangpuri dialect. The lessons are presented as language laboratory sessions. |
Collection Technical Notes | Tapes are apparently just a selection of the original recordings (made at the behest of P.S. Ray?), which form part of a series of 17 recordings based on a Spoken Bengali course (identity not certain). Note: A note (written by JJT) found in a carton holding some of these tapes states: "These materials appear to be {classroom/lang. lab} copies of field recordings. There are two complete sets and one incomplete. JJT-2/8/80" [The extra copies have long since been discarded.] (From the P.S. Ray Collection) WAVE files are now converted to MP3s. |
