On reading Old Irish (Hamp, 1967)

Collection Descriptive Notes
Eric Hamp discusses the problems of reconstructing the pronunciation of Old Irish texts; for purposes of illustration he reads a story from the Táin. His source material is drawn from the fourth [1949] edition of John Strachan's Old-Irish Paradigms and Selections from the Old-Irish Glosses (revised by Osborn Bergin): Royal Irish Academy (Dublin).
Collection Technical Notes
Tapes are dubs made in 1968 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from recordings Hamp did in 1967 in Copenhagen at Gareth Dunleavy's behest. They were subsequently donated to the LLA by Mr. Hamp. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
