Collection Descriptive Notes
Speaking in three different languages (German, Albanian and French), Eric Hamp: 1) talks about the state of Balkan studies in the U.S.A., 2) discusses various questions regarding the position of Albanian vis-à-vis the other Indo-European languages and 3) concludes with an overview of his findings studying the dialects of Greece. He is introduced each time by a German-speaking person.
Collection Technical Notes
Master tape consists of dubs; i.e., selections containing only Hamp's lectures, taken from the recordings of an unidentified international conference on linguistics held in Germany (?) c. 1971. The running time of the recording exceeds two hours, so it has been digitized as four discrete files. The prefix "deu" is chosen for the code since German was the language of the conference. The WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
