Collection Descriptive Notes:
Using English and Oriya, the interviewers elicit vocabulary items from the native speakers; the speakers also read texts and vocabulary lists. Note: This Chakravarti is probably the same as the professor who taught at the University of Chicago. (Consultant Dobek comes from Oringi, Koraput District, Odisha State in India, and his dialect is “Plains Didey” of the South Munda group.)
Collection Technical Notes:
Tapes are the copies donated to the LLA by Norman H. Zide in 1999. It is not clear whether these are the original field recordings or off-dubs of the same. The (incorrect) code “ALB” (for Albanian) was assigned to the tapes by Norman A. McQuown. It is the natives who refer to their language as Didey. Note: The WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
