Collection Descriptive Notes:
The authors, R. Blair and R. Vermont Salas, voiced Lessons 1-19 (?) in the Language Lab studio from c. 1964 through 1969 (?). Further recordings (of the lessons through No. 30) were gathered by N.A. McQuown in the field. Supplemental recordings (for the Listening In portions of later lessons) were made by Blair and Vermont in 1963.
Collection Technical Notes:
Tapes were the ones originally recorded in the Language Lab studio, but the edited studio recordings, which were all deemed unplayable (dried-out stock, too many sticky splices, etc.) have been discarded. In 1994-96 Sheri Pargman used mainly the copy masters (rather than the (heavily edited) studio recordings to make the DAT back-ups. (It would appear that most of the tape recordings on hubs have been discarded.--JJT, 7/5/18.) Note also: the "complete" set of the Maya lessons made from the CDs are missing certain exercises, such as the Review of Basic Sentences (English) were not copied to the CDs. Complete scans of the texts of Lessons 1-24 have also been prepared (q.v.).
