Field recordings from Ocosingo [in Spanish] (J. Pitt-Rivers, 1960); The Chiapas Project

Locations:
Collection Descriptive Notes
Pitt-Rivers and an unnamed female collaborator elicit life stories and other narratives from Chiapanecos (male and female) in the municipio of Ocosingo (Chiapas State, Mexico).
Collection Technical Notes
Tapes in this collection are divided into two sets: 1) The first six original field recordings on three-inch reels and 2) a dub from all six made in the Old Lab in 1962. The recordings, in turn, constitute a subset of the the ten recorded in Ocosingo by Pitt-Rivers in 1960. Note: The dates entered on the back of the boxes are in European style; i.e., day-month-year. Here they are converted to American style. Also note: The string "tzh" in these codes indicates that Ocosingo is in the Tzeltal-speaking area. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
