Collection Descriptive Notes
With one exception (a man), a native speaker (female) does both the slates (in English) and all the Kannada drills from an unidentified textbook. It appears that the purpose of the course is to contrast the "spoken" forms of Kannada with the "literary" ones. As for the locale for the language, "Karnataka" was chosen on analogy with the "Spoken Kannada" collection (q.v.).
Collection Technical Notes
Tapes are the copies (on seven-inch reels) sent c. 1966 from an (unknown) producer [a university language lab?]; JJT wound these tapes off onto hubs in 1979. Note: On Tape 3 the lessons are not presented in order (e.g., Unit 9 follows "Unit 18".) For the rest the lessons can be identified with some degree of accuracy despite not having the text on file. WAVE files are now converted to MP3s.
